Keukenkabinet Compact Kitchen by Johanneke Procee
The Netherlands-based designer Johanneke Procee has designed an interesting compact kitchen concept called Keukenkabinet in collaboration with Plugers & Vercoulen. Designed for small spaces, the foldable kitchen hides most of its parts when not in use, saving some useful space. The compact kitchen was designed keeping in mind the increasing number of small studio apartments in the city. In most of these compact living spaces, the cooking and sleeping functions are limited to the same room. The designer re-evaluated the role of kitchen furniture to suit these compact apartments.
In designer’s words, “Johanneke was inspired by her travels in South America where she says they define the space of a kitchen differently. “The compact spaces inspired me to approach the different functions a single room house needs to have from another perspective” Keukenkabinet is a project about opening a space at the moment one needs it. It’s a link between two worlds. When the cabinet is closed, it’s a piece of furniture that’s a part of the living space. By opening the cabinet you literally create a new space, a compact kitchen.”
