Scatter Storage Shelf by Nendo
Japanese design studio Nendo has designed the Scatter Shelf. The shelf is composed of 5mm black glossy acrylic sheets stacked in a grid form in three layers and slightly displaced. The sturdy shelving unit creates a stunning visual effect in which, when viewed from the front the objects stored on the shelves appear as though they are caught in a spider’s web. When viewed from an angle, the glossy surface of the acrylic shelves creates a multiple reflections within the shelves, which makes the ‘opaque’ acrylic appear to be transparent.
The reflections of the acrylic shelves also scatter the view behind the shelving unit, creating a kaleidoscopic effect. Although the small gap between the acrylic shelves and the glossy surface makes this storage furniture a dust magnet, its design and visual effect it creates are truly unique and mind-blowing.
