Norwegian Wild Reindeer Centre Pavilion by Snøhetta
Norway-based architectural studio Snøhetta has designed the Norwegian Wild Reindeer Centre Pavilion, Tverrfjellhytta at Hjerkinn, Dovre, Norway. The spectacular site is located on the outskirts of Dovrefjell National Park. The 72m2 building is 1200m above the seal level, overlooking the Snøhetta mountain massif.
The architectural design of the building is based on natural, cultural and mythical landscapes of Norway. The rigid outer shell creates a contrast with the soft organic-shaped interior space. The outer rectangular frame is made of raw steel and glass and the inner core is wooden.
The inner core is shaped like the erosion created on rock or ice by natural forces like wind and running water. The unique design of the interior space combined with rigid outer frame creates a warm and protected gathering place.
