Tree House Porch by John Grable Architects
American practice John Grable Architects have renovated a modest 50’s era home in Terrell Hills, Texas. The plan was to renovate the entry facade and add a screened porch to the backyard. But due to budget constraints, the role of the porch was doubled to serve both as a dynamic facade for the front elevation and as an outdoor gathering space for the family.
The south oriented screened porch captures the breezes to enhance the cross-ventilation throughout the house and the concrete floor deck serves as a thermal mass for passive solar heat gain during the winter. To cope up with the harsh Texas sun and to ensure the durability, the porch was constructed from Western Red Cedar.
