Esfera City Center – project for grandiose residential complex in Mexico
The new residential complex by Zaha Hadid in Monterrey, Mexico will look like an intertwined and winding complex mountain range. This is the first project of Hadid’s studio in Mexico, and it will be a large and complex housing project covering an area of 137,000 square meters. The project will be distinctive due to the contemporary aesthetics and it will be built in accordance with the highest environmental standards and it will tend to be self-sustaining.
The project “Esfera City Center” meets the needs of the growing population of Monterrey for more numerous and higher quality residential units. While investors initially requested a complex with 12 residential towers, Hadid suggested lower buildings with 981 residential units and apartments, which will allow greater friendship, unity and strengthening of community housing in Monterrey. Each building is designed in order to optimally use and adapt to the environment around it, so the complex has a series of associated internal and external courtyards, gardens and public spaces for tenants and their neighbors.
The housing complex with 981 apartments will have 64 lofts, 360 one-room apartments, 352 two-room apartments, 155 three-room apartments and 40 four-room apartments. The public park of 30,000 square meters within the housing unit will have a coffee shop, fitness center and workshops for reading and recreation, church, playground, skate park, quiet zones for tai chi, yoga, reading and recreation, amphitheater for concerts and theater, huge green garden and special area for picnics. Numerous shared public spaces will be built in a way that would simultaneously protect the residential community of external crime, while at the same time it would help to join the urban life in the city.
