Rem Koolhaas-designed garage museum opens in Moscow
Moscow got a new grand museum of contemporary art, “The Garage Museum of Contemporary Art”, near the famous Park Gorki. The grandiose object was created by the famous Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas, and sponsored and founded by Dasha Zhukova, art collector and wife of billionaire Roman Abramovich.
The exterior of the museum as well as the interior have exiting and adventurous line. Its semitransparent facade offers a view on the exhibitions, while the inner part offers interesting spaces to explore the creative ideas of the artistic pieces. The new museum is constructed on the frame of an old restaurant from the 1960s which was abandoned and decomposing more than 20 decades before it came into the hands of Zhukova. The interior preserved elements of the old space such as the old artistic mosaics and the decorative tiles.
The object is placed above ground in order to allow easy connection to the park. Inside it has five exhibition rooms, spacious auditorium, lecture rooms, library and cafe.
The museum is expected to be fully completed in September, when it will add exciting red stairs leading to the open terrace on the roof of this exciting new building in Moscow.
