Elegant duplex with practical modular furniture
Israeli architectural studio “Toledano Architects” worked on the renovation of a spacious duplex with large roof terrace in Tel Aviv for a family with two children. By using wood, concrete and black metal the designers managed to create a modern and comfortable space for housing, located in the attic of the building.
The main challenge for designers was to create a division between the parents’ and the kids’area, while keeping the living area open in order to encourage family interaction.
The entire apartment is modular, with sliding doors, hidden shelves and multipurpose furniture. This makes every room multifunctional, depending on the time of day or occasion. The most remarkable feature of the apartment is the gracefully hanging staircase that enriches the living room with graphic linear shadows.
The kids’ area is designed as a playground with an integrated desk, writing board, bookshelves, beds, closets, a set of small table with chairs and a small wooden palace accessible only to children. Although teak wood prevails in this room, the whole design is fun and playful, complemented by colorful details in order to encourage creativity.
The parents’ apartment, with a completely different design is separated from the rest of the duplex with a small built-in cabinet.
The living area is extended to the exterior with a large pergola, enlivened by lush plants and a beautiful view.
