Polymorphic Kinetic Installation by Columbia University Students

Architecture students from Columbia University GSAPP have created Polymorphic, an outdoor bench inspired by the simple kinetic action of a see-saw and the reverberating motion of a Slinky. The double sided bench is made of a series of 119 unique and interconnected sections which transforms into a chaise lounge and an interactive balance board. The sections are connected via pivot and bolt system which allows the vertical movement of one section to be picked up by others. The entire installation only used 18 plywood sheets and the whole project was done in a limited budget of $1000. Take a look at the pictures.
