Australia House is a gallery and atelier built in the ‘snow country’ of Niigata Prefecture, Japan by Australian architect Andrew Burns. This new pointy building replaces the old one that was destroyed during the earthquake in March 12, 2011. The two-storey triangular building provides space for Australian artists to engage with Japanese communities and exhibit their work. The steeply pitching roof is designed to avoid snow deposition during the winter. The exterior is clad with charred wood.
