Corner House 1

The Corner House, designed by Marc Koehler and Sophie Valla is situated on a corner-site in the newly developed area of Nieuw Leyden- a former factory area at the edge of the town center of Leyden. The architects wanted to take optimal benefit of the different views given by the site which is situated on a corner. So they have designed 3 levels with 3 different spatial orientations and programs all integrated into one vertical structure.

Here is some information from the architects, “The top floor is used as a penthouse for living and cooking. The space is getting wider towards the front façade so that it overlooks a park. The first floor consists of a more intimate sleeping area while the space becomes narrower towards the street. On the ground floor there is a garage and a loggia which serves as an entrance. By rotating the side façade on each level into an opposite direction, terraces are created, giving each floor its own outdoor space. The house uses a sustainable energy management system, based on town heating and mechanical ventilation.”
