American architectural practice Carver + Schicketanz have designed the Dani Ridge House in Big Sur, California. The unusual house seamlessly blends into the surrounding landscape. The goal was to conceal this house from its uphill neighbors, so the architects have cut a shelf into the narrow slice of grassland between an access road and the steep slops of West Coast. The uphill land extends as a green roof over the underground portion of the house, making it a part of the hill. All the utilities of the house are hidden underground, including septic system and a 5000 gallon water storage tank. The house has a very simple and minimalist interior with lots of wood and stone.
