Sten Chair

Brooklyn-based designer Paul Loebach has created the Sten Chair. Named after the famous British WWII machine gun, the chair has a very simple design. It combines a carbon fiber ‘skeleton’, and fitted wooden components. In designer’s words, “The carbon is used to take advantage of its incredible rigidity, and is employed in ‘connective’ areas where a chair needs structure the most. This arrangement allows for the simple wood parts to fit neatly into the molded form, and provide a warm natural material where the body contacts the chair. Developed with the engineering support of Klinger Engineering.”

Carbon Fiber Chairs FAQs

Why is carbon fiber so expensive?

The process of making carbon fiber is extremely intricate and time consuming. The materials used must be high grade in order to gain maximum strength and density.

Is a carbon fiber chair better than a normal chair?

In terms of durability, yes. The price of carbon fiber chairs is quite high, which makes it impractical for some people. If you’re not really fussy with the design, then any other chair would do just fine.

Do I really need a carbon fiber chair?

You don’t necessarily need one. Any type of chair would do if you’re just looking for a piece of furniture to sit down on, but if you’re a big fan of fancy and luxurious furniture, then a carbon fiber chair would definitely fit your standards.
