Bureau Table by Lukas Peet 1

Canadian designer Lukas Peet has designed the Bureau furniture collection which includes a table, stool and side table. Here is some information by the designer, “With this table I wanted to explore the relationship between the horizontal surface of the tabletop and the vertical supports of the legs that is the basis of a table and more importantly how they interact with each other.

I wanted to achieve a balance of substance and elegance with the contrasting elements of a significant tabletop and the opposing stilt like legs that support and contain it. By creating the substantial volume of the tabletop it was important that the connection with the steel legs in which it hangs from was very physical, communicating the balance each element has achieved in relation to each other. The two elements are very different in material, colour, texture and form, though become unified through this physical connection.

The legs are made of steel with subtle radiuses added along the edges of each tube and in connection with the horizontal ring that the tabletop hangs from. This supporting structure has been painted in a dark matte purple to contrast the elephant grey of the tabletop.

Made from fiberglass, the tabletop has been painted in textured elephant grey paint and finished with a clear gel coat creating a subtle pebbled glossy surface. I feel that this tactile quality adds to the design by contrasting the matte steel legs, as well as by adding character to the table through these differing finishes.”
