5.5 designers, a Paris-based design studio has created the Karpett in collaboration with flooring company Tarkett. Designed for the exhibition “le sol sans dessus dessous”, the Karpett is essentially a large roll of Tarkett flooring. When contained, the Karpett becomes a bench and when rolled out, a comfortable floor covering for the family activities like exercising, playing with the kids, watching TV, etc.
In designer’s words, “At first sight, it looks like a bench, but it’s actually a comfort dispenser. Comfort that become palpable, available, usable, always ready. A friend decides to have a nap and it suddenly becomes a custom roll-out bed. Kids are looking to play and need only have to roll out their favourite playrug. A TV room needs to be improvised and all it needs is for KARPETT to be arranged to set it up comfortably.”
