London designer Ian McChesney of McChesney Architects has designed and installed a functional and unique seating sofa in the atrium of the Angle Building for Derwent London. Named as “Out of the Strong Came Forth Sweetness”, the form of this furniture was generated using a teaspoon to draw treacle from a tin. The unit comprises an oval seating area from which extends a 22m long spar. The unit is fabricated from carbon fiber which is both strong and very light enabling the spar to be incredibly slender. At the foot of the piece is a seating area upholstered in leather by Bill Amberg. Take a look at the pictures.
