Roly Poly 2 is a playful rocking lamp design created by Korean designer Jung Jae Yup. Made of birch plywood, maple and Korean paper, the lamp can also be used as coat rack by taking off the shade. The lamp looks unstable, but even if you try to push it down, it won’t stay down but bounce back up. Following is some information by the designer, “Everything in the world reacts in any form and people often think furniture plays a fixed role in daily space.
However, furniture, especially wooden furniture, always responds in any form. Although we can see, an afterimage of furniture in everyday life is always a little bit dynamic.
So, I try to give some that visible afterimage to furniture. Roly-poly increases its presence in the space by expressing dynamic afterimage. If someone hangs clothes on a hanger, it would incline If someone touches this lighting, it responses with blurring of light through this feedback furniture can give dynamic energy to the living space. Upper part is made of 4mm birch plywood and weaving Korean paper for the Lightweight Bottom part is made of maple for the heavyweight and both of them assemble by Calculated joint.”
