The peaceful beauty of the Sicilian island nature is reflected in the family house Casa nella Grotta located in an old cave in Sicily. The cave which has historically been a refuge for animals in this region became home with a refined set of rough natural texture.
The architectural intervention by Studio Agnello & Associati resulted in the construction of an elegant modern apartment inside the dark cave. The owners of apartment wanted a home that would be isolated from the frantic urban life and a home in which they will become one with the untouched nature on the island.
The architects skillfully managed to play with the rough interior of the cave which is fully retained in the interior and created a pleasant place for housing. They incorporated bright furniture elements that match well with the asymmetric rough surfaces in the cave and carefully selected lighting elements with ambient light to accentuate the natural, rough imperfections of the cave.
