How to Decide on the Best Decorations for Your Yard

With so many decorations available, it can be hard to narrow down what you want. But it can be difficult to create an attractive, cohesive yard without giving some thought to what you’re doing. These questions will help you decide what to buy.

What’s Your Budget?

Creating an extravagant yard for Halloween is going to require a significant investment. You’ll need to come up with an overall figure you feel comfortable spending. From there, look at how much each purchase will require of your budget. Thankfully, most decorations on the market are energy-efficient, but you may also want to consider the amount of power and energy it will take to light up or inflate your decorations.

Do You Have a Theme?

Ghosts and goblins? Witches and wizards? Do you want to go with one cohesive theme, or do you want a Halloween extravaganza? If you’re not quite sure what look you’re going for, go online for inspiration before making any major commitments.

How Many Outdoor Outlets Do You Have?

Before you get too carried away with the outdoor lights or blow-up decorations, you should take a look at your outlet situation. You don’t want to be shocked when you go to set up your decorations and you find you have 15 plug-ins with only a single yard outlet to work with. Plan accordingly so you don’t overload your electric capability.

Am I Overdoing It?

If you want to be THAT house, you might think what you have is never enough. But if you have a tiny yard, it doesn’t take a lot of decorations to fill up your lawn. To make sure you’re not acquiring more decorations than you have space for, keep an eye on what you have and where it will go.

Do You Want It To Shine at Night or 24/7?

It’s fun to buy Halloween decorations that have a ton of lights because they really pop at night. And that’s fine if you only want your yard to come alive after dark. But if you want it to look epic no matter what time of the day it is, you should also focus on the non-twinkly decorations, like blow-ups, a faux graveyard, or adhesives.

Do You Want Long-Lasting Quality or Cheaply-Made Decorations?

It can be tempting to head to the nearest store and stock up on a ton of cheap Halloween decorations. The problem is, many of those items won’t survive the harsh outdoor weather. They’ll last for one season if that. It could be cheaper in the long run to choose decorations that will last many years, instead of one season.

Do You Have Storage Space?

Once Halloween is over, it’s time to take down all of your decorations. Your new witch, ghost, and goblin friends will be stuffed into storage until next year. Make sure you have space for all your decorations, or you’ll regret getting them.

This Is Your Year

Ready to have the most incredible house in your neighborhood this Halloween? With some planning and a lot of time, you’ll be scaring the kids on your block for decades to come.
