Starbucks with an interior inspired by local arts in Johannesburg

The world-famous coffee shop Starbucks recently opened a second cafe in a shopping center in Johannesburg, South Africa.  The newly opened Starbucks is a pleasant space supplemented by the rich local culture and art of Johannesburg. The result of the mix of South African features with the distinctive spirit of Starbucks is a modern interior with traditional notes.

The new Starbucks is designed by the team of Starbucks Emea Design Team in collaboration with skilled local craftsmen and designers who designed wooden furniture and illuminating elements. The South African craftsmen and engravers have succeeded to convey the company’s history in the interior in a unique way.

A striking element is the portrait of the well-known Starbucks siren superbly carved into a wooden wall panel and painted by the South African artist Kurt Pio. The interior is a combination of wooden panels and leather with dark, elegant shades.
