This spacious family home in Antwerp enjoys the daylight through the enormous rear balcony door which extends along the entire height and length of the back wall. Facing the backyard, the house is in a direct connection with nature.
The new glass wall was made in a recent renovation of the house, by the Belgian architects “Sculp [IT]”. The family wanted the house to be connected to the garden, something which was not possible with the old structure. Therefore, the architects tore down the back of the house, opening the spacious kitchen with a glass wall that is also a large balcony door in the back yard. This way the entire interior is open to the garden through 3 meters wide and 6 meters high balcony door-wall.
Besides connecting the kitchen wall and the new extension at the rear, the glass wall offers an amazing view of the garden. The first level is the spacious family kitchen where the family can cook and socialize. The second floor houses a home office, dining room and living room while the rest are the bedrooms and bathrooms.
The entire interior is bright and minimalistic, in order to preserve the feeling of spaciousness and light throughout the space. Some of the floors and walls are made of raw concrete, which gives the minimalist interior an industrial note.
In order to allow greater enjoyment in the yard the kitchen island is mobile and can be easily transferred to the garden for parties or family lunches outdoors.
