Container Guest House 1

The Container Guest House, designed by Poteet Architects, is a compact living space created using shipping container. The container which serves as guest house is located in San Antonio, Texas. The main emphasis while designing this guest house was on the sustainable features. The planted container top is slightly held off to provide shade and air flow to reduce heat gain. The interior walls including floor are insulated with spray foam and then lined with bamboo plywood. The used water from the sink and shower are rerouted for roof irrigation. The toilet is a composite one.

The rear of the container is screened using wire mesh. The whole container “floats” on a foundation of old telephone poles. The front deck is made up of HVAC equipment pads set in a steel frame. Blades from an old tractor disc plow are used for exterior light fixtures. A large steel and glass partition is used to connect the interior with surrounding landscape.
