London-based designer Christopher Duffy created a table that materializes the dramatic depths of the ocean. The concept for the Abyss Table was oriented towards depth that was achieved by stacking sheets of wood and glass on top of each other. This design is a geological cross section which is as hypnotizing as the ocean depths.
The entire team was working on the design for almost a year, experimenting with glass and wood arranged to look like a 3D-geological map. Finally they came up with this amazing design.
“I was looking into sheets of thick glass at my glass manufacturer’s factory, and noticed how the material darkened as they added more layers – the same way the sea does as it deepens, so I wanted to use this effect to replicate a real piece of the earth’s sea bed” described Duffy.
